Magnetic lash kits: why they come back
Magnetic kits have a higher return rate than strip or cluster lines, and the reasons cluster around four parts of the kit rather than the lashes.
Returns are usually liner returns
The lash pairs rarely fail. A magnetic lash is a strip with small magnets in the band, and there is very little that can go wrong with it. What fails is the liner: it dries too fast, it stays tacky, it smudges, or it does not hold the lash at all.
That is why liner formula matters more than lash design. When a customer says “the lashes fell off,” they usually mean the liner let go.
Four causes behind a return
Liner dries before placement. A fast-drying liner snaps while the customer is still aligning the lash. In a dry climate this happens within seconds. The fix is a slower-drying formula for dry markets, not a different lash.
Liner never fully sets. In humid markets the opposite happens: the liner stays tacky, smudges on the lid, and the lash slides. The fix is the faster-drying formula.
Magnets too weak or too few. Five small magnets per pair is the working minimum. Fewer, or weaker hold force, and the lash lifts at the outer corner first.
Placement on the wrong part of the lid. The liner has to go where the lash sits, which is the lash line, not a thick eyeliner wing. Customers used to heavy eyeliner apply too wide a band.
What the kit should contain
- Liner pen matched to the destination climate.
- Applicator, because fingers do not place a magnetic lash accurately.
- Remover, because customers will otherwise pull the lash off.
- Case, because a soft pouch lets the band pick up lint and lose grip.
- Insert with placement guidance and a note on liner thickness.
Selling the lashes alone shifts the whole problem to the customer’s existing eyeliner, which is not magnetic and will not hold anything.
What to print on the insert
Three instructions reduce returns more than any product change:
- Apply liner along the lash line, thin, and let it set for the stated time.
- Place the lash with the applicator, starting at the outer corner.
- Remove with remover, not by pulling.
The set time is the one customers skip. A liner that needs thirty seconds gets used after five, and the lash slides off a wet line.
Questions from buyers
Why do magnetic kits get returned?
Mostly liner problems: drying too fast, staying tacky, or being applied too thick.
Can one liner work in every market?
No. Dry and humid markets need different dry-down behaviour.
How many magnets per pair?
Five is the working minimum we build to, covered and tested per batch.
Do customers need the applicator?
Yes. Placement by hand is where most failures start.
Is a case necessary?
It protects the band. A soft pouch lets lint into the magnets.
Can the kit carry my brand?
Yes: box, liner, applicator and insert.
Does the lash work with normal eyeliner?
No. The liner has to contain iron particles to hold the magnets.
How long does a pair last?
Up to fifteen wears with the case and remover.
Can I sell replacement liners?
Yes, and most brands do once the kit sells through.
How do I order?
Tell us the market climate and kit contents through the contact page.
Match the liner to the market
Tell us where the kit ships. We will pick the liner formula for that climate and send a kit to test.
