What actually drives the price of a wholesale lash tray
Two quotes for “0.07 D-curl mixed tray” can differ by half. The difference is almost never the factory’s mood; it is six variables, and five of them are on your spec sheet.
Why there is no price list
A tray price without a spec tells you nothing. The same phrase, “volume lash tray,” covers a 3D fan at 0.07 mm and a 10D fan at 0.05 mm, and those are different amounts of bench time before anything else enters the price.
So we quote from the spec. If a supplier hands you a list before asking about fan count and length ratio, the list is a starting point they will renegotiate once they see the detail.
Here are the six variables
1. Fibre and curl. Korean PBT in matte black is the base line. Coloured, flat, cashmere and two-tone fibres cost more because the run is shorter and the sorting is slower. Heat-set curl adds cost over a mechanically curled fibre, and it is the difference between a tray that survives a year and one that relaxes in the bag.
2. Fan count. A handmade 10D fan takes roughly twice the bench time of a 3D fan. This is the single biggest line in the price. If a quote looks impossibly low for 10D, the fans are either machine-made or not 10D.
3. Tray layout. A single-length tray is quick to lay out. A mixed tray with four lengths in a specific ratio takes longer because each row is counted separately. Custom layouts are charged for the counting, not the lashes.
4. Packaging. A sticker label costs almost nothing extra. A printed sleeve adds a week and a print setup. A printed box adds one to three weeks and a $500 order threshold at most factories, because the press does not run for forty boxes.
5. Volume. Unit price falls as tray count rises, because setup and inspection are spread across more units. The break points differ by line: premade fans and cluster work are more labour-heavy than classic trays, so the curve is steeper.
6. Freight mode. Not part of the unit price, but part of the landed cost. Courier on 300 trays and sea freight on 30,000 are two different calculations, and the packing plan changes with them.
How to compare two quotes properly
Put both quotes next to the same spec and check five things:
- Fan count per cell, not just “10D” in the description.
- Fibre origin, and whether the curl is heat-set.
- Length ratio, row by row.
- Tray type and label, plus who applies the label.
- What is included in the crate: inspection record, documents, carton labels.
If one quote does not answer all five, it is not a comparable quote. It is a number.
What a cheap tray costs later
The cheapest tray usually saves money in one of three places: thinner fibre, mechanically curled instead of heat-set, or fewer lashes per cell than the spec claims. All three show up after the goods arrive, and none of them are visible in a quote.
The cost lands in returns, in fill appointments that take longer because fans deform, and in reviews. A tray that costs a little more but holds its curl across a year of stock is usually the cheaper tray by the time it is used.
This is why we send samples before a bulk order. Four to five pieces answer the questions a quote cannot.
Questions buyers ask
Why can’t you send a price list?
Because the price depends on fan count, layout and packaging. A list would be wrong for almost every buyer.
What is the biggest cost driver?
Fan count. A 10D handmade fan takes about twice the bench time of a 3D fan.
Does a mixed tray cost more?
Yes, because each row is counted separately. The charge is for layout time.
How much does packaging add?
A sleeve adds about a week. A printed box adds one to three weeks and a print threshold.
Do prices drop with volume?
Yes, but the break points differ by line because labour per unit differs.
Is freight included?
No. Freight is quoted per order once the carton count is known.
Why are some quotes half the price?
Usually thinner fibre, mechanical curl, or fewer lashes per cell than the spec states.
How do I know what I am getting?
Ask for fan count per cell, fibre origin, heat-set confirmation and the length ratio in writing.
Can I get a quote without a full spec?
We can quote a range, but the number moves once the fan count and layout are fixed.
What is the MOQ?
100 pieces per style, with mixed styles inside one order.
Send the spec, get a line-item quote
Fan count, diameter, length ratio, quantity and packaging. The quote comes back itemised so it can be compared against another factory on the same terms.
- Itemised quote in USD
- MOQ 100 per style
- Bulk in 10 to 15 working days
- Quote within 24 hours
